It's been awhile since I made some TOP 40 mixtapes. The previous release "Radio Play #5" was actually months ago and I forgot to release it.

So this week I started collecting some new songs, and last night I decided to play some of them randomly. First time listening, and first time playing. That's why I decide to create a new series for this type of mixtapes: CRATE DIGGIN'

It's just some simple mixing with regular mix in and mix out. The idea was to listen and familiarize myself with these new songs, and learn how to incorporate them in my future mixes.

Spotlight ON AIR 140909

After the last two series of high pumping energy Spotlight ON AIR, this time I decide to make it "more relaxing". Something nice to play to with while driving or running your daily activities.  It's a mixture of my favourite old tunes with the new ones. Bringing back the memories of the good ol' Spotlight first few series back in 2009-2010.

This was actually two mixtapes joined together. The first 30 minutes is actually a live recording from my Sunday Morning Tunes program at CDM Radio's EDM Channel which went amok. After mixing for about 30 minutes, listeners told me that they couldn't hear anything on the radio. Later on, I found out that I've forgotten to plug in my external usb soundcard to my computer. So the broadcasting winamp didn't receive any audio input. Silly and careless me... :P

So after getting things right, I started another 2 hour set with different songs of course. Somehow I just cannot mix the same songs with the same order over again. It just feel weird and the mood has gone.

Listening back to this 30 minutes recording, I really like it. So last night, I decided to make another 30 minutes mixtape with the same mood and energy and later join them together to become this mixtape.

Well, I guess this is it... We've reached the end of the year. It's time to release my final mix for 2012. I actually did a collaboration with a number DJs at TOP 40 Mixes Factory for the fanpage Year-End Mixes. Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to make the post about it here.

I made this mix last night right after dinner. I figure that I will need just a regular simple mix to play at my party's background (simple mix-in and mix-out just to play music at the background without too many distracting tricks) while we are busy chatting and eating tonight at my place tonight before going to the rooftop to enjoy the whole Jakarta's fireworks.

The idea is to enjoy and making a flashback on all my favourite hits in 2012.

Well, hopefully you get the chance to download and play it on the New Year's Eve too.

A 'short mix' I made last night LIVE on MIXLR for this Top 40 Mixes Factory fanpage this week. The idea was to play songs from early 2000. Songs were picked and played on the set at random. So pardon me if some songs have bad qualities as I didn't have any chance to go through them before. In fact, I don't remember having some of them at all.

I was eager to play some Sophie Ellis Bextor tunes like: Take Me Home, Get Over You or Murder On The Dancefloor and S Club 7's Don't Stop Moving; and only to realize that they are not in my library anymore. Spotlight ON AIR: 20.03.12

There are moments when I made full preparations for my mixes, like those in Spotlight, Goin' Eighties and Electrocution series: choosing songs and carefully selecting each remixes that would fit in the energy for the whole mix. That probably my best excuse when people asked me why it took so long to release one of the series... :P

But there are also times when I just play the songs randomly. Usually to try out new songs I've just acquired or maybe play out some old time favourites or songs that I haven't played before. Just pick and play, and I call them practice sessions.

I actually have quite a number of practice sessions' recordings. Some were recorded during live broadcast, and others were recording from my trial and error sessions. Most of the time, I kept them for my own personal listening; but when I decide to release them, I call them as "Spotlight ON AIR" or "Classic Disco Mix". Well, either I am not good to think of any new names or just too lazy to do it. :D

In the midst of preparing the upcoming SPOTLIGHT 10, I've decided to release this practice session I did a few nights ago to fill in an empty spot this week at TOP 40 Mixes Factory facebook fanpage. It was just some "basic mix in and mix out" sessions with songs that all run in the same key. As I was looking for new challenges, I decided to do the mixing without the aid of waveforms at all. Yes, the new Serato ITCH 2.1 allows me to do that with one of its available skins. Not that I rely 100% on these waveforms all this time, but I find these colourful waveforms really make things so much more convenient. Of course, the main rule still apply: ALWAYS TRUST YOUR EARS!!!!

Well, it was very interesting and challenging indeed although I have to make a few adjustments to the way I usually mix. Definitely will do it more in the future when I'm bored.
